The blue pansy butterfly (Junonia orithya) is a butterfly with many subspecies occurring from Africa, through southern and south-eastern Asia, and in Australia. It is known as the Eyed Pansy in Africa and Blue Argus in Australia. In Europe the Blue Argus refers to a different butterfly,  Aricia anteros. 

These images were taken at Maharashtra Nature Park, Mahim, Mumbai, India.

The butterfly has a span of 4.5-6cm. The upper surface of the butterfly is blue, velvety-black and dull brown with variegated  eyespotsThe undersurface is seen in the picture below and is orange-brown with ocelli zigzag lines.
