About

I am a medical oncologist based in Mumbai. I trained at Tata Memorial Hospital and have spent thirty years in clinical practice — most of that time at S.L. Raheja Hospital, where I continue to see patients. Oncology is a field that demands sustained attention: to evidence, to uncertainty, and to the person sitting across from you. It has shaped how I see everything else.

Outside the clinic, I photograph. My subjects are birds, wildlife, the city I live in, and the quality of light at particular hours of the day. Photography and medicine share more than most people suppose — both ask you to look carefully, to notice what is actually there rather than what you expect to find, and to make decisions about what matters. I shoot with a Canon EOS 5D and have been doing so for over a decade.

I also play guitar — classical and fingerstyle, mostly for myself. Music is the one discipline where I have no professional ambitions, which makes it the most honest of the three.

I am the co-founder of AOMedix, a medical information company. Through it I run OncoCompass — an oncology education resource for clinicians and students — and TheCancerConversations, a site for patients and families facing a cancer diagnosis.

This site holds the photographs. The writing lives elsewhere. The guitar stays at home.
